Permeable Paving: Ways It Would Be Beneficial To Your Property

Permeable paving systems are made up of a grid that contains fill materials. The fill materials you can use for your paving include limestone, gravel, and even sod. This permeable paving functions to ensure that moisture can soak into the ground naturally, while still providing you with a sturdy flooring for your driveway or exterior living space. Permeable paving is also cheaper than other paving alternatives such as concrete or asphalt since it does not use expensive materials and neither is its installation labour intensive. If you are considering changing your exterior paving, here are a couple of the ways that permeable paving would be beneficial to your property.

Permeable paving eliminates the need for additional drainage

One of the main things to keep in mind when installing traditional paving such as concrete is ensuring that you also install a drainage system. This drainage system will usually comprise pipes and storm drains to redirect the flow of water away from the concrete. Without the drainage system, you will find that your exterior paving becomes prone to premature water damage. This water damage can become irrevocable on concrete that has been fortified with steel, as it would eventually lead to concrete cancer.

If you are looking for a viable alternative, permeable paving would be right up your alley. Since this paving facilitates the absorption of water directly into the ground, you do not have to worry about water pooling at the exterior of your home, especially during wet weather. Permeable paving also decreases the risk of flooding without having to invest in elaborate drainage systems.

Permeable paving is durable

Another way that permeable paving would be highly beneficial for your property is because of the durability and longevity that it will provide you. A misconception some individuals may have concerning permeable paving is that it will be weaker than traditional paving since it is a grid network. The reality is that, if installed professionally, your permeable paving would be capable of withstanding heavy weight loads such as from vehicles and high foot traffic without acquiring damage.

In addition to this, permeable paving is much more flexible than solid paving materials. Thus, if the ground is to shift, your permeable paving will move with it rather than staying in place and developing structural damage. Solid concrete paving, on the other hand, would be prone to buckling or cracking if there is any upheaval in the ground beneath it.

About Me

Choosing New Paving

Hello, my name is Jackie and this is my paving blog. I recently decided to do something about the old tatty paving stones outside my house. For the last couple of years, the uneven and cracked paving has driven me around the bend. Every time I step outside of my front door or get out of my car I would almost fall over. I called in my son and his friend, who happens to be a paving contractor. He explained the different options I had and I decided to lay fresh concrete tiles on my yard. I hope you enjoy my blog.
